Inner Balm Yoga Therapy Schedule from September 2017

After running a home studio in Hornsby Heights for several years, I have now moved to Umina on the beautiful Central Coast.

I am currently offering yoga  therapy sessions and community classes to groups through the relevant organisations.  I am in the process of setting up a studio location which will be available later in the year for small group classes.

If you don't feel ready for one-on-one sessions, try out some of the recordings available. You may be very pleasantly surprised by the improvement you find from using these.

If you have practiced yoga before and have some favourite poses, try practicing those. Your body knows what it needs; those poses that feel good will be doing you good.  Don't overdo it, if you are unsure about any pose or what your body is capable of doing, join a class and consult the teacher.

Yoga should really be practiced at least 2 or 3 times a week, but once a week is a good start and you should start to feel the difference in your body and mind after a few sessions.

Restorative yoga is a gentle stretching form of yoga with relaxation in the poses, breath awareness and yoga nidra (deep relaxation).

Pranayama is a series of breathing practices.  In our busy lives we often become detached from our breathing process and unaware of how to obtain the full benefits of using our breath effectively.  We start with breath awareness and move on, when suitable, to more advanced breathing practices incorporating breath control.

Yoga nidra is a form of deep relaxation ideally practiced lying down, also known as psychic sleep.  Yoga nidra is a form of meditation, but a more accessible form for many people.  The instructions guide you, rather than just having you sit and await enlightenment! Practised correctly, it can be very effective for relieving stress and anxiety.

During Yoga Nidra you will be reminded to stay awake and aware, but sometimes this isn’t achieved.  Just trust the process, knowing that you are in a very receptive state. If you have fallen asleep be grateful for the opportunity you have had to have a deeply rejuvenating rest.

Restorative Yoga for Relaxation and Stress Relief (class will be scheduled later in the year)

I believe just about anyone would benefit from a restorative yoga class and you can get the benefit from an occasional class, not so necessary to come along weekly. It's a bit more like a massage - it can be an occasional treat!

This is a very gentle restorative yoga class that will help you to slow down, relax and get back in control of your feelings and life.  Suitable for anyone, whether you are just a little tired, suffering from the stresses of day to day work and life, mild to chronic anxiety, chronic fatigue, adrenal fatigue or insomnia.

Insomnia, if left untreated, can lead to increasing levels of stress as you are unable to deal with day to day situations while your body is stressed from lack of sleep.

Techniques used in the class can be taken out into your day to day life and used to help you cope with stressful situations. Also suitable for carers, as it can help you deal with the demands that may be placed on you.

Suitable for all levels of yoga experience. Whether you have never stepped on a yoga mat or have been doing yoga forever, you will benefit.

Some people with anxiety find it difficult to come along to a group class to begin with, particularly if the anxiety is chronic.  If this is the case, I suggest you try some one-on-one yoga sessions to familiarise yourself with what the content of the classes will be, and to start to find some relief from your anxiety.  It may be easier to start with 45 minute sessions, please call for more information.

Research into the benefits of yoga for stress relief is on-going.  Click here for links to some scientific research that show the benefits of therapeutic yoga.
